TiVo has found yet another way to piss off your local cable company with their announcement of TiVo HD DVR.
The new TiVo HD DVR, expected in stores this August, has all the great features of TiVo PLUS a Digital Cable Ready set-top-box that works with any cable provider in the U.S. What does this mean? Say goodbye to those annoying monthly cable-box rental fees!
"TiVo HD extends the TiVo experience to an even wider audience than ever, giving sports and entertainment enthusiasts the ultimate companion to their HDTV set," said Tom Rogers, CEO and President of TiVo. "It is the ultimate media centerpiece for the living room with the broadest selection of broadband content, right alongside your favorite broadcast and cable programs, giving HDTV viewers more choice and control than they've ever had before. And it can be used in place of the customer's existing cable box."
A little breakdown on what to expect in this new TiVo ...
- Compatiable with digital cable, analog cable and digital antenna (ATSC)
- 20 hour of HD or up to 180 hours of standard definition recording time.
- Record two HD channels while watching a 3rd channel at the same time.
- Built-in Ethernet Jack
- Two CableCARD slots and USB ports
- Movie & TV Downloads from Amazon.com, Home Movie Sharing and universal Swivel(TM) search
The TiVo HD will reportedly retail for just $299.99, almost $500.00 cheaper than TiVo's Series3 HD Digital Media Recorder that TiVo released earlier this year. Currently TiVo is taking pre-orders for the HD DVR from their website and expect the product to be available for retail purchase sometime this August.
